U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Geoff Freeman recently responded to the Biden administration’s newly announced goals for travel and tourism in 2025, expressing optimism about the potential impacts on the industry. Freeman emphasized that setting ambitious targets for growth and sustainability in U.S. travel and tourism is essential to the nation’s economic recovery and global competitiveness.

Freeman noted that the travel industry, contributing over $1.3 trillion annually, plays a pivotal role in boosting local economies, supporting millions of jobs, and strengthening the country’s global influence. “The administration’s goals are a positive signal to our industry, underscoring the importance of both inbound and domestic travel as catalysts for economic growth,” he stated. Freeman added that these objectives align with the U.S. Travel Association’s ongoing efforts to increase travel accessibility, promote sustainable practices, and enhance the overall experience for international and domestic visitors.

As part of the 2025 vision, the administration aims to improve infrastructure, support policies that facilitate travel, and prioritize environmental sustainability within the tourism sector. U.S. Travel is poised to collaborate with federal agencies and private stakeholders to achieve these targets, Freeman remarked. He highlighted the association’s dedication to advancing policies that enable growth while adapting to changing traveler expectations, particularly regarding health, safety, and sustainability.

Freeman concluded his statement by calling for continued support from policymakers, emphasizing that a thriving travel industry is not only crucial for economic resilience but also for fostering cultural exchange and strengthening America’s position on the world stage. As the nation moves toward these 2025 goals, the U.S. Travel Association remains committed to advocating for innovative policies that will empower the travel sector and solidify its role as a cornerstone of the American economy.

“We applaud the Biden administration for taking important steps to welcome international visitors. The United States will be a more competitive destination by adding one million visa appointments that will enable visa wait times of 90 days for the vast majority of visitors.

“The administration’s actions are in the best interest of our country and our economy, especially as we prepare to host World Cup games in 11 U.S. cities that will attract as many as 6 million international visitors to the United States, as well as other major upcoming events.

“The travel industry commends Secretaries Blinken and Raimondo and appreciates the tremendous efforts to make much-needed progress. As U.S. Travel has long stated, announcing a formal processing goal and prioritizing the reduction of visa wait times will allow the United States to be far more globally competitive for decades to come.”

The U.S. Travel Association is a national non-profit organization representing the $1.3 trillion travel industry, a vital driver of the nation’s economy.
