Marriott International Teams Up with HMI Hotel Group for Major Rebranding in Japan

Marriott International, in collaboration with HMI Hotel Group, has announced the rebranding of seven HMI properties across five key Japanese cities into Marriott Hotels and Courtyard by Marriott brands. This initiative is a strategic move by HMI to refresh and realign these locations with contemporary global hospitality standards, while also introducing the esteemed heritage and customer-centric services of the Marriott brands to Japan’s discerning market.

Situated in five of Japan’s top tourist destinations, these locations attract millions annually. Hamamatsu, known for its rich history and culture, features the 16th-century Hamamatsu Castle and is celebrated for its culinary scene. Kyoto, Japan’s imperial capital for over a millennium, enchants visitors with numerous iconic UNESCO World Heritage sites, including temples and shrines. Kobe, with its cosmopolitan vibe, merges Eastern and Western influences due to its history as a major port city. In southern Japan, Onna Village on Okinawa Island is famed for its breathtaking tropical beaches and scenic coasts. Lastly, Kitakyushu City in Fukuoka Prefecture is encircled by spectacular natural scenery and is notable for landmarks like the well-preserved 17th-century Kokura Castle and the Taisho-era Mojiko Retro District.
