Malta International Airport has updated its projections for 2024, anticipating a total of 8.45 million passengers by year’s end, surpassing last year’s figures by about 650,000 passengers. This adjustment follows a robust first quarter and an ongoing pattern of steady growth throughout the year.
In April alone, the airport saw 774,562 passengers, marking a 9.3% increase compared to April 2023. Aircraft movements also rose by 9.6% during this period. Although airlines increased seat capacity by 10.5% over last year, the average seat occupancy slightly dropped to 83.8%.
The top markets for April included Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Poland. The United Kingdom, Germany, and Poland showed notable growth over 2023, while Italy and France experienced slight declines.
Given these strong performances, Malta International Airport has revised its 2024 guidance as follows:
