The 12th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo (MITE), commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Macao SAR’s founding, will be held from April 26 to 28, 2024, at Cotai Expo’s Halls A, B, and C in the Venetian Macao. Themed “Meet at MITE: Discovery, Networking, Interaction!”, the Expo will expand in size, offering enhanced business opportunities through seven key features, and attract participants from the tourism and related industries both locally and internationally.

The event is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, and the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao SAR. It is organized by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and coordinated by the Macau Travel Agency Association.

A press conference was held today by MGTO and the Macau Travel Agency Association to detail the 12th MITE’s program and associated activities. Key figures including MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, MGTO Deputy Director Ricky Hoi, Deputy Director of Economic Development Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, Huang Zhongjian, and President of Macau Travel Agency Association, Alex Lao, were present.

Senna Fernandes remarked in her address, “In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao SAR, the exhibition area and scale will be expanded to 30,000 square meters at three halls instead of two like last year. The daily opening hours are also extended for one hour longer. More industry delegates and buyers will be welcomed from across the globe this year. Taken into consideration that the period from June to August falls on the peak travel season, MITE will be held every April starting this year. Exhibitors can seize the timely opportunities before summer holidays start, to gain greater yields at the Expo. We look forward to joining hands with industry partners from worldwide to take a new step forward into mutual progress and sustainable tourism development.”

The Expo is part of the Macao SAR Government’s “1+4” strategy for diversified economic development, aiming to enhance Macao’s role as a global hub for tourism and leisure. The 12th MITE will feature over 1,300 booths with more than 600 exhibitors and about 500 buyers participating, emphasizing the synergy of “tourism +” to foster cross-sector partnerships.

Here are the seven key highlights of MITE for this year:

  1. 25th Anniversary Celebration of Macao SAR: This year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao SAR, celebrated through a blend of technology and culinary delight in the Gastronomy Pavilion and The Cellar. A special technology pavilion employing VR and AI will provide insights into 25 years of tourism development and future prospects, complemented by unique offerings at a celebratory price of 25 patacas.
  2. Expansion of “1+4 Pavilion” and Introduction of “New Media Matrix”: The “1+4 Pavilion” has significantly expanded its scale and display area to foster ongoing development across several key sectors such as health, finance, technology, and more. The “New Media Matrix” will enable exhibitors to extensively showcase their offerings through various channels, including live-streams by online influencers.
  3. Promotion of New Tourism Development in Macao and Hengqin: Under the theme “one exhibition, two cities,” the expo introduces an outdoor camping experience zone. In partnership with the Economic Development Bureau of Hengqin, the event will feature the Macao–Hengqin Camping Festival and related industry salons to boost joint tourism ventures.
  4. Debut of “Belt and Road Products Pavilion”: This new pavilion offers a dedicated platform for exhibitors to market and sell unique products from the Belt and Road regions, enhancing opportunities for international trade and market expansion.
  5. Enhancement of Consumption through Expanded Expo Measures: The expo will enhance its offerings by expanding the exhibition space, increasing the number of booths, and extending operating hours. The Macao Street and Neighbors’ Platform will further support local tourism and digital transformation of businesses, aiming to boost consumer spending.
  6. Cultural Museums and Educational Tourism Pavilion: This pavilion focuses on the synergy between tourism and education, featuring institutions like the Palace Museum and National Museum of China. It includes a competition for designing educational tour itineraries, promoting the educational travel market.
  7. Commitment to a Sustainable “Green and Low-Carbon Travel Expo”: MITE is advancing its commitment to sustainability through green planning and the use of space. The event will engage in carbon trading to support environmentally friendly projects, aligning with global sustainability goals and national carbon reduction targets.

Exclusive Offers and Exciting Prize Draws at the Expo

During the Expo, over 40 product and destination presentations, forums, and activities will be held, providing the latest tourism information and products from Macao and globally for both residents and visitors. Various exhibitors will present exclusive offers only available during the Expo. Additionally, attendees who make a single purchase of 500 patacas or more can enter the “MAK MAK Grand Lucky Draw,” which offers a chance to win attractive prizes over the three days of the event.
