Hong Kong Tourism Board to Light Up The Sky With Pyrotechnic Displays and Drone Shows for Festive Revelry

The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has unveiled plans to enhance its festivities by introducing regular pyrotechnic displays and drone shows, coinciding with various festivals and major events starting from May. The inaugural pyrotechnic display is scheduled for the evening of May 1st, welcoming the Labour Day Golden Week. Similarly, the city's traditional festive celebrations will be further enriched with the debut of a drone show on May 11th over Victoria Harbour.

The inaugural pyrotechnic display is scheduled for the evening of May 1st, welcoming the Labour Day Golden Week. Similarly, the city’s traditional festive celebrations will be further enriched with the debut of a drone show on May 11th over Victoria Harbour.

Mr Dane Cheng, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, said, “The Labour
Day Golden Week is a peak travel season for Mainland tourists. In light of the the waves of events
in entertainment, arts and culture and traditional festivities in May, HKTB seizes the opportunity to
step up promotions in Mainland and roll out pyrotechnic and drone performances of various themes
to enhance visitors’ experience in town, adding icing to the cake to their journey, while inviting
locals to enjoy together.
We also encourage trade partners in different sectors to provide more
tourism products and spending offers with a view to stimulating the economy and maximising
tourism-related receipts.”

The inaugural Pyrotechnic Display will dazzle audiences on May 1st, featuring diverse themes inspired by various festive celebrations.

Starting in May, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) will host regular pyrotechnic displays and drone shows, aligning with major events or festivals, each featuring distinct themes and elements. Complementing the iconic A Symphony of Lights multimedia show, these performances aim to heighten the sensory experience and enhance the allure of Victoria Harbour, drawing both tourists and locals to revel in the spectacle.

The inaugural pyrotechnic display is set for May 1st at the East Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, coinciding with the Labour Day Golden Week and concurrent town-wide promotions such as the “Yau Tsim Mong Shopping Festival.” By enriching the evening ambiance and stimulating consumption, HKTB endeavors to create a vibrant atmosphere for all.

HKTB encourages trade partners to capitalize on these events by offering tourism products such as harbor tours and pyrotechnic-view dinners. By extending visitors’ stays and fostering collaboration with sectors like F&B and retail, HKTB aims to boost consumption and generate economic benefits.

In tandem, HKTB intensifies promotions targeting Mainland markets leading up to the Labour Day Golden Week. Initiatives include:

  1. Promoting Hong Kong tourism in new IVS cities like Xi’an, Shaanxi, and Qingdao, Shandong, through media visits, influencer collaborations, and discount coupons.
  2. Partnering with online travel agents to showcase unique ways to experience Hong Kong during the Golden Week, such as City Walks and immersive green tourism, via travel tips and e-commerce livestreaming.
  3. Collaborating with digital payment platforms and mainland consumer portals to spotlight Hong Kong’s arts, culture, nature, nightlife, and culinary offerings, enticing visitors to explore the city’s diverse attractions.
