The airship known as the ‘Flying Bum’ or Airlander 10, has been designated to be constructed on a site located to the north-east of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, which is situated on the opposite side of the city from Doncaster Airport. An agreement has been reached between the City of Doncaster Council and Hybrid Air Vehicles (HAV), the developers behind Airlander, to situate the production of the airship at Carcroft Common. This site, spanning 50 hectares, was pinpointed by the council for this purpose, with HAV set to take ownership of the land.

The development of new facilities for the production, testing, and certification operations of Airlander 10 at this location is contingent upon receiving planning consent. These facilities are projected to have the capacity to produce as many as 24 aircraft annually. The initiative is expected to generate over 1,200 jobs.

HAV has made known that Airlander 10 possesses the capability to transport 100 passengers or handle a payload of ten tonnes. The company has disclosed that the order book for Airlander 10 currently exceeds £1bn, with plans for the inaugural aircraft to commence service in 2028, flying under Air Nostrum.

Tom Grundy, the CEO of Hybrid Air Vehicles Ltd, expressed that Airlander 10 is set to revolutionize the possibilities for sustainable air travel. He stated that Carcroft Common is slated to become the flagship production center needed to achieve this transformation, which would not only create over 1,200 jobs but also contribute approximately £1bn per annum in exports. Grundy acknowledged the unwavering support and robust backing that HAV’s vision for reimagining clean flight has received from both the City of Doncaster Council and the broader South Yorkshire region at every phase of the project.
