For the very first time, the Council of Indigenous Peoples joined forces with the Ministry of Transportation and Communications’ Tourism Bureau in a European expedition aimed at showcasing Taiwan’s rich tourist attractions. On the first of March, they launched a campaign to entice visitors in Amsterdam, Netherlands, followed by their participation in the renowned ITB Berlin (Internationale Tourismus Börse) from the 5th to the 7th of March. Throughout this promotional venture, performances by the Zuyun Cultural Music and Dance Troupe highlighted the unique indigenous music and dance of Taiwan, complemented by hands-on Paiwan glass bead craft workshops. The Council aims to draw international attention to Taiwan, offering an immersive experience into the rich tapestry of its indigenous cultures.

The Council of Indigenous Peoples highlighted the unique positioning of Taiwan’s indigenous tribes, nestled in mountainous terrains or along coastal lines, promoting tourism that respects cultural and ecological integrity. This concept is perfectly encapsulated in this year’s Taiwan Pavilion theme: “Embrace the Mountains, Embrace the Sea, Enjoy the Island’s Full Circle.” Each indigenous community boasts its own distinct culture and language, contributing to Taiwan’s diverse cultural legacy. Throughout the calendar year, these tribes celebrate a variety of seasonal festivals and events, each a testament to their reverence and appreciation for the natural world.
