Barbara Muckermann, who has been with Silversea for 14 years, is leaving Royal Caribbean Group to pursue new opportunities. Effective immediately, Bert Hernandez will take over as president of Silversea.
“I have had the pleasure of working with Barbara since 2018 when Silversea joined Royal Caribbean Group, first in her role as chief marketing and commercial officer and later as brand president,” said Jason Liberty, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group. “Barbara has helped position Silversea as the world’s top ultra-luxury and expedition cruise line, and the brand further solidified its leadership with the official inauguration of Silver Nova earlier this year, a ship hailed as ushering in a new era of luxury at sea.”

Bert, who most recently served as senior vice president, international, has been a part of the Royal Caribbean Group for the past 20 years. He brings to his new role extensive commercial and operational expertise. Currently, Bert leads a team dedicated to enhancing Royal Caribbean International’s position as the preferred vacation brand, catering to diverse travel preferences in over 80 countries. Previously, he served as president of China operations for Royal Caribbean International, overseeing its transformation into China’s premier cruise line. Bert also played a key role as chief operating officer for Azamara, the Group’s former luxury cruise line, achieving its most profitable year under the Royal Caribbean umbrella.
